Pomona, CA — September 21, 2026 — Inland Valley Humane Society & S.P.C.A. and Upland Animal Control jointly served search warrants today at multiple properties in the cities of Claremont and Upland as part of an ongoing animal welfare investigation involving Furget Me Not Cat Rescue, a non-profit animal rescue registered in Pomona, California.

The warrants were obtained following allegations that cats associated with the rescue were being kept in inhumane conditions.

During the searches, investigators discovered more than 500 living and deceased cats and nine living dogs across the properties. Multiple deceased cats were found inside a freezer in a garage, while additional deceased cats were discovered buried in a backyard.

Investigators also collected evidence from the properties, including expired medications intended for human use, used needles, pet carriers, animal food and other items relevant to the investigation.

“This is an extremely difficult and complex case, and our immediate priority is the safety and well-being of every surviving animal,” said Nikole Bresciani, President/CEO of the Inland Valley Humane Society & S.P.C.A. “We are grateful for the collaboration with Upland Animal Control, Claremont and Upland Police Departments, and every individual working to carefully remove the animals. Our teams remain committed to ensuring each animal receives the care and compassion they deserve.”

The living animals are being removed and evaluated to determine their immediate medical, behavioral, and housing needs. Because of the number of animals involved, the recovery and assessment process is expected to require significant time and resources.

This remains an active investigation, and additional information will be released when it is available and when doing so will not compromise the integrity of the case.
