Christian was familiar with Huskies because his office had a work dog that was a Husky. He knew that the breed was going to require a lot of attention and training. When it came time for Christian to get a dog of his own, a Google search landed him on Winterfell - our very timid Husky girl. Christian says that the minute he saw her looking shy and scared he knew he wanted her. “At that moment, I knew she was the one, and that I could give her a good life and a lot of love.”

Christian learned that Winterfell had been adopted once and returned, but that did not dissuade him at all. “Knowing that just made me more determined to make sure that would never happen to her again,” said Christian.

When they first met at the shelter, she completely ignored him, but he understood that she probably had some previous bad experiences to make her that wary of strangers. During the car ride home, Winterfell attached herself to Christian, but later at the house she paced everywhere and didn’t relax until bedtime. “As soon as I got in bed it was a wrap! She joined me and I knew then that she felt at home.”

Christian changed Winterfell’s name to Matcha, and he immediately put her on a strict routine to help her adjust to her new life and the world. A dependable routine along with lots of care, attention, patience and love is working wonders to help Matcha to be less fearful of other people. Christian knows there’s still a lot of work to do, and he’s actively researching tips and tricks for training Huskies. He cautions people about getting a Husky unless they are willing to understand the breed and give them what they need to have a good quality of life.

Christian says his world has changed tremendously since bringing Matcha in as part of his family. “She really has brought so much joy into my life,” says Christian, “she’s smart, playful, incredibly sweet and loves to cuddle. I adore her and I think she adores me too!”
