Tammy lost both of her senior pups at 13 and 14 years old last year and was still reeling from the grief. Recently, her neighbor adopted a dog, a Boxer named Puffs, from SGVHS to be a companion to her current dog. Tammy helped her neighbor by staying with both of the dogs during the day while her neighbor worked long hours. Tammy immediately fell in love with Puffs, who had been renamed Tug.

Unfortunately even though Tug usually enjoyed playing with other dogs, the relationship with his new friend was not quite working out as well as was hoped. But Tug's relationship with Tammy was wonderful. Tammy was heartbroken when her neighbor told her she decided that she was going to return Tug to the shelter. "I had just been laid off from my job," said Tammy, "so it wasn’t smart for me to take in a dog, otherwise I would have adopted him right away."

After two months went by and Tug was still in the shelter, Tammy made a decision. "I had to get him out of there and trust that I will find something soon," said Tammy, "Tug had my heart."

Tammy and Tug still walk with their neighbor and her dog, Harley, and sometimes Tammy helps out her neighbor and by spending the night with Harley if her neighbor will be working very late. "I accidentally left my pillow by my front door, and when I came back to check on Tug he was sleeping on it," said Tammy. Tammy and Tug have a very special bond, and he is super happy in his new home. "He’s just amazing", she says, "even though it didn’t work out between Tug and Harley, it worked out for us."

Eventually Tammy says she would like to adopt a friend for Tug, but for now they are just having a great time together. This Boxer boy really "tugs" on Tammy’s heart.
